Wonderful article! I really appreciate the emphasis on how deer and animals, in general, have messages for us if we learn to listen to them and that, across cultures, they serve to bridge us to other states of consciousness. The photography is really outstanding.:)
What a wonderful article! And the photos are so beautiful - I am unfamiliar with species of deer besides the white tail and mule deer…the fallow deer is so whimsical! I always feel there is a special forest blessing given when deer appear. While common, their presence is always a gift.
I confess that I was unaware of the cultural significance of deer. I meet roe deer in the woods, and in the garden where they like to sample my plants. Sometimes I see red deer though they are usually on higher ground. Today the air was still, and the sound of a stag carried down to me. I often hear the roe bucks bark to warn me I am on their patch. I shall now see them in a new light. Great set of images too!
Beautiful photos - particularly that one of the jackdaw taking off. I haven’t seen rutting stags but I heard the snorting and the clattering of antlers from a wood once - it was pretty eerie and enough to make me move on swiftly!
I love this article and your photos are wonderful. The jackdaw takeoff image in particular is quite magical. I love the symmetry in the ears and the wings. This captures the symbiotic relationship they share in a unique way. We have many white tailed deer use and pass through our property of 43 acres near Warkworth Ontario. We seldom see bucks but have a reputation as a deer nursery. I must create a post of some favourite images to share.
Thank you so much! I was very lucky to have caught it 😅your comment on the symmetry is so interesting thank you for sharing that John! And wow that scenery sounds lovely, yes please do make a post, I look forward to seeing those shots :)

Always a gift indeed. And fallow deer are particularly whimsical, perfect word to describe them! Thank you so much for your comment Emma!
